9 Melodies for this Monsoon

Monsoon is incomplete without bhajiyas, piping hot tea and of course, good music. As you snuggle up in your home and enjoy watching the rains, SpotboyE.com brings you monsoon melodies that are a must-have on your playlist.

Pyar Hua Iqrar Hua (Shree 420)

This is undoubtedly the first track to come to mind when you think of monsoon melodies. In this song crooned by Lata Mangeshkar and Manna Dey, Raj Kapoor and Nargis share their eternal promise of togetherness. The song is penned by Shailendra and composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Ek Ladki Bheegi Bhaagi Si (Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi)

Torrential rains, the heroine’s car breaks down and a flirtatious mechanic steps in to help the damsel in distress. What follows is a playful song that has become one of the most memorable monsoon ditties. And yes, Kishore Kumar’s brilliant singing has a lot to do with it.

Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho (Hanste Zakhm)

This soulful ballad from the 1973 release is crooned by Mohammed Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar. Picturised on Priya Rajvansh and Navin Nischol, the song’s highlight is the instrumentation by Madan Mohan.

Zindgi Bhar Nahi Bhoolegi (Barsaat Ki Raat)

Featuring Bharat Bhushan and the beautiful Madhubala, the track talks about love at first sight during a rainy evening. The soulful melody, composed by Roshan and penned by Sahir Ludhianavi, will remind you about your first encounter with your beloved.

Rim Jhim Gire Sawan (Manzil)

When you combine Amitabh Bachchan, Kishore Kumar and RD Burman, you are bound to get magic. This track from the 1979 film is one of the most soothing melodies about romance in the monsoons. Of course, the song also has another version, crooned by Lata Mangeshkar.

Kaate Nahi Katte (Mr India)

Don’t we all remember Sridevi, draped in a blue saree, sensuously dancing to this track? Composed by Lakshmikant Pyarelal and sung by Kishore Kumar and Alisha Chinai, this song became a chartbuster as much for its great music as for the sizzling chemistry between Sridevi and Anil Kapoor.

Tip Tip Barsa Pani (Mohra)

If anyone could give stiff competition to Sridevi’s hotness quotient in Kaate Nahi Katte, it was Raveena Tandon. The actress scorched the screen as she grooved to Tip Tip Barsa Pani in a yellow saree. Her chemistry with her then-boyfriend Akshay Kumar in the sensuous song had to be seen to be believed.

Taal Se Taal Mila (Taal)

It is said that it took 58 nights for AR Rahman and director Subhash Ghai to seal on the music of Taal. While the music director is known to work at nights, Ghai struggled to stay up with the maverick composer. But the result was for all to see – Taal’s songs became chartbusters. The title track, featuring Aishwarya Rai and sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, remains a favourite even today.

Barso Re (Guru)

Another Aishwarya Rai song. This melodious song brings out the innocence of a village girl. The playful yet mellow vocals of Shreya Ghoshal combine with AR Rahman’s music and Gulzar’s lyrics to give us a gem.
